Long Beach, CA – In the Women's Masters Lightweight
(30-39) Erika Anderson placed first with a time of 8:17.9,
5 seconds ahead of
her nearest competitor. In the Veteran Women's race (50-54)
Susan Carle captured
gold over the three finishers with an 8:21. Also in the
Veteran Women's race
(55-59) Wendy Beckendorf placed first in the field of
4. And in the Open Women's
Event, coach Iva Boteva pulled the fastest women's time
of the day, 7:12.7,
passsing the field of 11 by over 30 seconds.
Six Lions finished in second place! Silver medal honors
went to Mark Brubaker in
the Master's Men's Race (30-39). Mark pulled a 6:30.6
and will also compete in
Boston at the World Indoor Rowing Championships, hoping
to improve on his time
over the next four weeks of training. Also placing second
was Denise Cusano in
the Senior Women (40-49) category. The Lions dominated
this race, also placing
3rd-Patricia Gushikuma, 4th- Ondine Jarl, 5th-Kathryn
Riccio, 7th-Anne Garrell,
and 9th-Suzanne Simmons, in the field of 10. Lori Annes
took second in the
Veteran Women's event (50-54), and Tudor Dimofte also
placed second, in the
Men's Open Lightweight division. Also racing as lightweight,
Laurie Groehler
placed second among Senior Lightweight Women (40-49)
and Dianne Jones took 6th.
Paula Cabot took silver in the Veteran Women's (60-64)
race in the field of 4.
Adrienne Lao, Kersten Valentine-Rothenberg and Emily
Sandor showed the club's
depth by finishing 3-4-5 in the Master's Women's (30-39)
race. Also racing was
Chris Kruszynski who placed 10th for the senior men.
