Long Beach, CA – At the US Rowing Masters National Rowing Competition in Long Beach on August 14-17th, The Lions Club rowers performed masterfully. Ending the weekend with 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and a bronze medal, the club was proud of each of its dedicated participants.
The Club's weekend event was thoroughly choreographed from the pre-race days to the congratulatory and pep talks after the racing concluded. There was a specially prepared racing sheet compiled by Coach Alexi a nutritious food spread organized by Lori, boat repairs and tune-ups by Coaches Dawn and Alexi and race plan meetings and overall technical and psychological support from Masters Head Coach Iva.
Many non racing club members drove down to offer cheering support and help with carrying oars, loading the trailer and adding to the Lion's Club spirit. There was even the occasional Master's Mom (Emily's) asked to help carry the 8 on the marathon haul back to our tented area.

The weekend had it's moments with double starts, windy line up procedures, and the incredibly long heavy hauling of boats from our trailer to the docking area and back. Stuffing socks into the spaghetti straps and stopping off for a boat wash along the way made the hauling a bit more palatable.
All said, it was a very successful Master's Nationals Event for the Lions Club. Our final sprints were much improved and our race pace rates were impressive. Once again, the formula of great coaching and dedicated rowers came together in a regatta filled with Lion's pride, accomplishment and medals.
